School of Software Engineering

School of Software Engineering (SE) was established under the approval of the Education Ministry and the former State Development Planning Commission in November of 2001. It is among the groups of exemplary software schools. Focusing on the cultivation of international-class software engineers, SE aims to develop itself into the most influential high-level software talents education bases in South China. It introduces the new model of marketization into operation and devotes itself into the construction of high-qualified faculty, curriculum system and exercitation base. The school has recruited more than 2,000 students since its establishment, more than 700 of whom has graduated and began a working career. The employment rate is above 98%. Now the school faculty includes 35 in-school teachers, (of whom more than 80% are professors or with a doctoral degree, including 5 doctoral supervisors and full professors and 16 associate professors). There are also 35 part-time professional teachers, 80% of whom are with industrial experiences. Thirty-five guest engineering and technology experts have been appointed including 15 foreign experts.
 
SE possesses comprehensive teaching and experiment infrastructures, such as the IBM mainframes, various servers, PCs, pocket-computers, and other hardware experiment facilities. Besides, the school has rich software resources, such as the operating system of present mainstream, database, software development tools, application system and so on. There are 3 foundational teaching laboratories, 4 specialized laboratories, 3 engineering practice bases, 2 educational centers, 13 combined laboratories jointly constructed with enterprises, 1 server maintenance center. SE has formed three patterns of student education, i.e. the software engineering master program, the full-time 2+2 undergraduate program and full-time 4 years undergraduate program. The school has a good relationship with many outstanding enterprises, including IBM, Microsoft, Intel, HP. SE has undertaken many national, provincial research and development projects as well as projects in cooperation with enterprises since its establishment.
